Interconnection: drawing the boundaries

Start with the Susquehanna record to distinguish physical connection from power procurement.

The contractual relationship

Interconnection agreements organize a facility’s connection to the grid. Check the signatories and definitions to establish the parties and their roles. A data center, generator, transmission owner and system operator are distinct actors.

Four sets of terms

  • Boundary: Where is the connection point, and who owns, controls and maintains each asset?
  • Capacity: What operating conditions are permitted, and when does expansion trigger further review?
  • Costs: Who pays for construction, upgrades and continuing services?
  • Operation: How are metering, protection, outages and fault responses coordinated?

Document status

This file currently supplies a reading framework and a regulatory order. A complete executed agreement has not yet been incorporated and checked. General reading questions are not presented as project-specific contract terms.
